Important Recall for 2024 Kia EV9 Models

At Premier Kia, your safety is our highest priority. We are committed to keeping our customers informed about important safety updates from Kia Motors. We want to alert you to a recent safety recall affecting certain 2024 Kia EV9 models equipped with the Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) feature.

Overview of the Recall

Kia Motors has issued a safety recall for specific 2024 Kia EV9 GT-Line and Land models manufactured between September 25, 2023, and May 28, 2024. The issue involves the Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) feature, which allows drivers to move the vehicle forward or backward remotely using the key fob.

What Is the Issue?

Due to a software error in the Integrated Electronic Brake (IEB) system, repeated use of the RSPA feature at speeds of approximately 2 mph or less may result in insufficient brake pressure. This can lead to extended stopping distances, increasing the risk of injury to pedestrians or property damage.

Why Is This Important?

Safety is paramount, and it's crucial to address this issue promptly. Insufficient brake pressure during remote parking maneuvers can pose a significant risk. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), addressing recalls promptly helps prevent accidents and injuries.

What Models Are Affected?

The recall affects the following models:

  • 2024 Kia EV9 GT-Line
  • 2024 Kia EV9 Land

If your vehicle was manufactured between September 25, 2023, and May 28, 2024, it may be part of this recall. To verify if your vehicle is affected, you can enter your VIN on the NHTSA recall lookup page.

What Is Kia Doing to Fix the Issue?

Kia will update the Integrated Electronic Brake (IEB) software to correct the issue. The update will enhance the braking logic to ensure adequate brake pressure is applied during all RSPA operations, restoring the feature's safe functionality.

What Should You Do?

Kia will begin notifying owners of affected vehicles starting on October 4, 2024. Once you receive your notification, please schedule an appointment with our service department at Premier Kia. Our certified technicians will perform the software update free of charge.

In the meantime, we recommend refraining from using the RSPA feature until your vehicle has been serviced. If you have questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us.
