The K5 is Sporty and sophisticated, After hitting a home run with the 2020 Telluride and 2020 Soul, Kia is being aggressive in the mid-size sedan category by offering a totally redesigned 2021 Kia Optima. The Optima will be renamed the K5. It offers sleek lines, a "tiger nose" grille, a luxurious interier and will offer an AWD model. The competition is put on notice. Features

Trims and Powertrain Options Offered with the 2021 Kia K5

The K5 will offer a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder, 180 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. It will also have an 8 speed automatic transmission. There will also be a K5 GT that will be equipped with a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four that should make about 290 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. It'll pair with an first eight-speed dual-clutch automatic

The K5 will get 29 mpg in town and 38 mpg on the highway. One of the trim levels will offer an AWD version, which is a first for the Kia Optima.

Interior and Exterior

The K5 will be longer, wider and lower than the 2020 Optima it replaces. It has a slightly different and more sleek "tiger nose" grille and features a fast back design with smooth lines. It also boasts a roomy truck. Shiny Chrome runs from the front of the windshield pillars along the tops of the windows and back down to the rear window in a continuous loop. The K5 also features daytime running lights.  


The 2021 Kia K5 Interior

The K5 will have a very luxurious interior that offers drivers an entirely new interior design that aims to be minimalistic and open. The K5 is roomy and provides excellent interior material choices. KIA offers a natural-looking wood trim, sharp metal accents, a sporty flat-bottom steering wheel, and a new digital gauge cluster and multimedia system.

Safety

The Kia K5 Safety Package

Kia plans to equip the new K5 with all of its latest advanced driving assist systems (ADAS). Highlights include:
  • Adaptive cruise control that can incorporate information about the route ahead from the navigation system
  • Front and rear collision warning
  • Automatic front and rear emergency braking
  • Blind spot warning with active intervention
  • Lane departure warning with lane keeping assistance
  • Rear cross-traffic warning

Kia’s Level 2 semi-autonomous Highway Driving Assist with lane following assistance will also be available, automatically maintaining a safe distance from vehicles ahead while keeping the K5 centered in its lane. In current applications, HDA requires the driver to keep his or her hands on the steering wheel.

Additional safety technology includes a driver attention monitor, a surround view camera, and a camera-based Blind View Monitor that works on both sides of the car, depicting a video feed of what’s in the K5’s blind spots within the digital instrumentation.
